detective portraits

This is my final detective illustration, i created him by tracing his basic line wrok in photoshop and then adding in shading and detail with the brush tool, i flood coloured his clothes and then moved them to the side so that it distorted the image, i chose to leave his skin the same colour as the background, i did this because my main influence for this piece was Mark Smith and he often worked by block colouring the clothes of the character and would then leave the skin blank. I think this is good because it isolates his clothes which i think is key for Poirot,  his moustache, egg shaped head and expensive suit are the main elements which describe him and they are all highlighted in this image. The black lines bring out his moustache and the blank face and hands allow you to look more at his fine tailored black suit.

Vector Poirot and the textures were created in photoshop

Basic vector trace

I used photoshop to trace a picture of Poirot, i added the shading myself with a brush in photoshop. I block coloured him using the paint bucket tool and finally created the noise around him using a speckled brush effect, then i just went back over it using different shades.
